Shouting Above the Roar

When I heard the results of the election, my first reaction was depression, brought on by intense terror. The man elected to the most powerful position in the world does not believe in freedom of the press (the fairness doctrine), freedom of speech for Christians (hate-speech legislation), or the "unalienable right" to life. That is, indeed, a terrifying thing. Especially when partnered with the fact that these extreme views cannot (or at least will not) be tempered, and will in fact be aided, by Congress.

As the depression lifted and the terror subsided (or at least became bearable) something else rose to the surface. (I don't know, maybe I was going through the 5 stages of grief backwards.) I became angry. How could anybody vote for these people? How dare a man with such anti-constitutional views presume to place his hand on the Bible and vow to uphold and defend the constitution? Where were the constitutionalists, the defenders of life, the patriots, and why hadn't they voted to stop this man from gaining power?

But as the anger melted away, I finally came to a place of determination and resolve. Never again will I remain silent while a man with such extreme anti-constitutional views rises to power. Never again will I remain silent as my party allows fear and "political correctness" to cause them to stop standing up for the constitution and stop representing me. I will raise my voice as loud as I know how, and pray it inspires others to do the same. If we all scream from the rooftops, they can't ignore us for long.

In the 1800's there was a Restoration Movement started within the Christian church. The movement aimed to restore the church to the strength, unity and effectiveness that had characterized it at its start in the first century AD. The movement strove to do this by calling people to unite on the principles of scripture, declaring, "Where the Bible speaks, we speak. Where the Bible is silent, we are silent."

The United States of America needs her own Restoration Movement. We need to restore America to her former strength, unity and effectiveness by uniting on the principles of the Constitution. We need a Congress that declares, "Where the Constitution allows us to speak, we will speak. Where the Constitution is silent, we will be silent and allow the States to speak for themselves."

It's time to restore America to being the country our founding fathers fought for. Come on, Republicans, it's time to put cowardice behind you and speak up! Become the Restoration Party and take Congress back in 2010. If you won't do it, we'll leave you behind and find someone who will!

Silent No More!

I have not yet gotten this blog set up the way I want it to be, and over the next few days you may see lots of changes in the format. Bear with me as I get it up and going. I just felt that I needed to start something after last night's frightening election. For this first post, let me just explain why I'm here...

After last night's election, I must hang my head in shame. For the last year, as campaigning has gone on all around me, I have, along with the rest of the Christian community, been eerily silent. I just didn't feel like getting into the arguments with irrational people, so I kept my mouth shut so I wouldn't set them off. I let it be known that I supported McCain for president, and that I wasn't particularly happy with him, he was just better than the alternative. What I didn't do, though, was speak beyond that. I didn't stand up to Obama's substance-free spectacle, and attempt to shine the light of truth on what was going on. I just quietly set my resolve to use my vote for good and move forward.

Now I realize, I must use more than my vote. I must use my voice. I must call for restoration to come to America. America needs to be restored to her former glory. America needs to be restored to the values upon which she was built. It's possible, but it takes dozens of voices calling out in the wilderness, declaring the truth about what this country needs, and what our founding fathers intended. I will be one. I pray that others will join me, and together we can make a roar so loud that it cannot be ignored any longer. The USA was built upon government of the people, for the people, and by the people. We are the people. Let's let our voices be heard, and change the direction of our mislead government.
